INTERIOR APPLICATION OF ACRYLIC STUCCO FINISHES
According to the National Building Code of Canada, acrylic stucco finishes may be categorized as a wall coating. This designation likens them to aggregate enhanced textured paints. As such they are a non-contributory agent to fire ratings and are used primarily for aesthetic purposes and to minimize moisture intrusion.
When acrylic stucco is desired for interior application where humidity is not a concern, the gypsum sheathing can be prepared two ways: - Using Imasco Polybase, all joints have to be taped, coated and the entire area to be smoothed, then Imasco Primer should be rolled or sprayed on and allowed to dry.
- The gypsum sheathing can also be prepared as you would for the application of paint. Once the joints have been taped, coated and the entire area smoothed; then Imasco Primer should be rolled or sprayed on and allowed to dry.
Once you have prepared the surface with one of these methods, then Imasco Flexcoat or Perfector acrylic finishes may be applied.
On walls where high temperatures and high humidity exist, such as indoor pools, paperless gypsum or cement board should be the substrate of choice. The joints should be treated with a self-adhesive fibre joint tape and the entire surface trowel coated with Imasco PolyShield (air/vapour barrier), then primed with Imasco Primer followed by Imasco FlexCoat or Perfector acrylic finish in the texture of your choice.
This coating provides a long lasting durable finish that may be painted when a change in colour is desired. The surface is dirt resistant and may be easily cleaned with a sponge and a mild detergent.
The application of "Acrylic Stucco Finishes" on the interior is becoming more and more popular due to the broad range of colours available, it's colour fastness, it's durability and it's ease of maintenance truly make it the builders choice.
